The Third Officer shall perform the necessary duties required when the ship is in the port such as those relating to navigational watch and cargo watch.
Furthermore he is responsible:

1. To fix the position of the ship, and other navigational calculations every day when the ship is underway or in anchorage and reports the results to the Master
2. To prepare mid-day reports, navigation statistics, conditions and report the necessary items to the Master
3. To help the Chief Officer in supervising cargo handling operations
4. To revise shipboard times and manage the ships clock
5. To measure draughts
6. To help the Master on the bridge with anchoring and mooring operation
7. Before leaving port or shifting anchorage, to inspect communications system and important items related to the systems on the bridge and on other departments, make preparations on the bridge telegraph, navigation lights, signaling apparatus, fire detection equipment and on other statutory equipment
8. To maintain and manage the Deck Log Book and prepare records when instructed to do so
9. To perform the duties assigned by the Master

2. To calculate voyage statistics at the end of the voyage and report to the Master
3. To help the Chief Officer in the supervision of cargo handling
4. Before leaving port and before shifting anchorage, to inspect the steering gear and check safety at the stern and the surrounding during engine trials
5. To give instructions to crew manning at the stern of the ship during the mooring operation
6. To perform maintenance of navigational instruments and steering gear
7. To revise and maintain charts and other publications
8. To maintain reference documents for pilots, navigation, channels, harbors and weather conditions, collect the latest navigation information and report to the Master
9. To enter records of important items that fall under the cope of responsibility, such as deck Log Abstracts and maintain then
10. To allocate work for maintaining navigational equipment and other duties of the Deck Department
11. To perform the duties assigned by the Master
